Go-ahead for Pontins residential scheme

Northern Trust has secured planning permission for the second phase of a housing development on the former Blackpool Pontins site.

The planning application was submitted following the successful application for 275 family houses on the initial 22 acres last May. The phase two plans on the southern part of the site are for 73 homes.

Northern Trust will now look to sell the site and enter into negotiations with prospective house builders.

A spokesman for Northern Trust said: "This long-awaited decision provides much needed certainty and will make a valuable contribution to the acknowledged housing deficit in Fylde."

The illustrative scheme includes a wide range of properties and will include a significant proportion of affordable homes.

Northern Trust's spokesman continued: "It is hoped that, subject to confirmation from the Secretary of State and completion of a Section 106 agreement, that work will commence on this important gateway site within the next 12 months. We look forward to working closely with Fylde Council and our development partners to ensure a viable high quality scheme is delivered as soon as possible."
