Go-ahead for grammar school extension

Lancaster Royal Grammar School, advised by HOW Planning, has secured planning consent for a new food technology building needed to keep pace with the new curriculum.

The development, designed by Arup Associates, will also house a new staff room on the upper floor. Askam Construction will begin work immediately and the facility is expected to be ready for lessons in September 2011.

The new food tech building is part of a larger masterplan for the school which HOW Planning with which HOW is also involved.

Chris Edge, associate at Manchester-based HOW Planning, said: "This is an excellent result for the pupils at Lancaster Royal Grammar School. By securing this planning approval we have been able to ensure there is enough time to get the new facility up and running in time for when the new curriculum comes into place."

Davis Langdon is also advising the school.
