GMPTE outlines Oldham Metrolink plans
Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive is to hold two consultation events to present Metrolink proposals for the Oldham Mumps area, including a new road layout.
Under the proposals, the temporary Metrolink line from Featherstall Road to Oldham Mumps will run at ground level through a new junction at Mumps roundabout, until the town centre Metrolink extension opens in spring 2014.
The plans include the construction of a tram stop, creating an interchange with bus services, and a park-and-ride site at Mumps, which will be part of the new town centre line.
The events will be held from 4pm to 7pm at The Link Centre, 140 Union Street, Oldham, OL1 1DZ on Thursday 24 February and Tuesday 1 March.
The new Metrolink line to Oldham and Rochdale is due to open as far as Central Park and Oldham Mumps later this year and Rochdale Railway Station in spring next year.
i wonder if local contractors will be given an opportunity to tender for these works to create jobs and keep the oldham pound within oldham???????

If you work in the construction industry, you will understand that even national contractors are encouraged to employ local subcontractors and suppliers thus keeping the pound local

Local contractors might be given an opportunity to tender but it’s more than likely that the decision has already been made and it’s whoever has done the best ‘networking’ with the powers that be. Ninety percent of the time tendering is neither open nor fair and goes to the same old ‘favourites’ every time. Forget it! Why should local contractors be sub-contracted to the same old massive national operators who will cream all the profit out of the deal? It’s time for Councils to publish ALL the information about their tendering so we can all see what’s going on.

Stop focussing on the negatives. You should think yourselves lucky there is a tram going to that sh*t hole.
