GMPTE brings down bridge for Metrolink
The northern bridge over the Mumps roundabout in Oldham town centre is due to be demolished over the course of the Bank Holiday weekend to make way for the new Metrolink line that will run at ground level through the junction.
Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive is advising bus passengers and motorists that the roundabout will be closed this weekend.
The road under the bridge will be closed from 7pm on Friday 27 August until 6am on Tuesday 31 August, and bus passengers and motorists are advised to allow for extra time on their journeys through the area. Bus services and general traffic entering Oldham town centre via the roundabout will not be affected. However, sign-posted diversions will be in place for all bus services and traffic leaving the town centre.
During the demolition, eastbound traffic will be diverted to follow St Mary's Way, Egerton Street, Shaw Road, Cross Street and Huddersfield Road/Lees Road, or Oldham Way, Manchester Street, Rochdale Road, St Mary's Way, Egerton Street and Shaw Road, or Park Road, Glodwick Road and Cross Street.
Westbound traffic will be diverted to follow Union Street, King Street and King Street roundabout, or Union Street, Union Street West, John Street and Manchester Street.
Pedestrian routes will be maintained at all times.
Work to demolish the southern bridge will be carried out at a later date.
