GM building of year shortlist revealed

Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce has revealed the shortlist for this year's Building of the Year Award.

Judged by the Chamber's Property and Construction Committee, the final four buildings and developments are:

  • Manchester Central Library Redevelopment for Manchester City Council
  • Citylabs, by Manchester Science Parks
  • One St Peter's Square, Manchester, by Argent and Greater Manchester Property Venture Fund
  • Manchester City Football Club Academy and Training Centre

The chamber's 15-strong property and construction committee will undertake site visits over the next few weeks before making its final decision. The winning building will be announced at the Chamber's Property & Construction Annual Dinner at the Hilton on Deansgate in Manchester on 23 October.

Mike Gibson, chairman of the chamber's property and construction committee, said: "This competition celebrates the new and innovative buildings that are constructed in our region each year, and showcases the successful collaborations that take place between talented project teams in our industry and their clients. Again we invited nominations from everyone in our sector and received many worthy entries from across Greater Manchester. Without doubt, the final four buildings all make a significant contribution to our city region in terms of construction and development and I look forward to the judging process."

Last year's winner was Number One Riverside in Rochdale, built by the local authority.
