Gladman’s Sandbach housing scheme thrown out

Gladman subsidiary Fox Strategic Land & Property has had its planning application to build 280 homes on farmland in Sandbach rejected by Cheshire East Council.

Fox planned a mix of two and three-storey houses, including affordable homes, a park, two playgrounds and roads on 38.5 acres of arable land between Middlewich Road and Abbey Road.

Cheshire East said objections were received by 700 local residents and conservation group the Friends of Abbeyfields.

The grounds for rejection were that building on open countryside in Sandbach would be contrary to the adopted Local Plan & Core Strategy, which aims to focus housing development around Crewe and could also prejudice development of a 'significant number' of brownfield sites with planning permission in Sandbach that would meet housing need and boost local regeneration.
