Gatley Golf Club consultation extended

Developer Hollins Strategic Land aims to gather more feedback from the public on its plans to create a 300-home community called Waterfall Brook on land at the golf club off Styal Road.

It then intends to submit a planning application to Stockport Council in the spring.

Hollins director Paul O’Shea said: “We believe our proposals present a real opportunity to improve access to green spaces, meet local housing needs and create a thriving, balanced neighbourhood incorporating a range of community facilities for local people.

“We are committed to listening to local people and bringing forward proposals that best suit local needs.  As such, in response to feedback from the community, we have extended the period for feedback and would like to encourage those who have not yet shared their views to participate in the consultation.”

The consultation, which launched on 1 February, was due to end on Monday this week but the deadline for submitting comments has now been extended until 28 February.

Under the proposals, Hollins would build 300 homes on part of the nine-hole Gatley Golf Club located at Waterfall Farm on Styal Road. Half of the homes would be designated as affordable and others that would be targeted at older people looking to downsize, including bungalows and apartments.

At the heart of the development would be an ‘open-to-all’ community hub, created through retaining and enhancing a series of existing buildings and creating a neighbourhood centre with café, nursery, GP consultation area and flexible workspace. Among the buildings to be retained would be the Heald Green Theatre Company, which would be revamped to provide a range of social functions.

The proposed scheme also includes gardens for residents, areas of publicly accessible green open space and new pedestrian and cycle links to the surrounding areas. Access to the development would be from three locations: via the existing Pymgate Lane route to the west and new points at Grasmere Road and Troutbeck Road to the east.

O’Shea said when the proposals were first unveiled: “Our vision is to create a vibrant and accessible walkable neighbourhood that delivers homes for all and provides publicly accessible green spaces and community facilities for new and existing residents.

“We believe this presents an opportunity to deliver community cohesion by addressing shortfalls in specific local housing needs, while also delivering improved green infrastructure and benefits for the wider community.”

Will be an interesting planning committee meeting given Stockport’s exit from the GMSF.

What is the difference between houses and a community. Are they buiding a youth centre, shops, a meeting house, a multi-denominational church, a park, a school, and elderly persons center, and more. Houses do not a community make.

Really like the look of this. Suspect a number one South Manchester Golf Clubs will go this way, there is simply too many of them struggling to make ends meet. As it’s not green belt, seems appropriate to put to use as housing.

This looks like a good use of the disused golf course. Much better than taking greenbelt. It appears to have plenty of green space, housing for the elderly, community space, doctors surgery, nursery and a shop. Much better than the disaster on Seashell Trust land being built without any facilities.

Feel sorry for all the folk that live in the area of the golf club.At least 3 years of disruption building.followed by who knows what?

How much is the affordable housing for first time buyers?

Get the feeling people who like this plan live miles away from the area
So they are not affected. Just “ virtue signallers”

Very concerned about building houses on the golf course. Where will the children go to school? The doctors and dentists are already full. Style road will become a nightmare. Has this proposal been thought through properly? Church road in Gatley is already crammed with cars at rush hour as is Gatley road. The

Nobody wants this but do we have a choice

As a member of the Heald Green Theatre company I would appreciate it if you would keep us up to date with your plans. We are part of your plans apparently. To quote ‘Among the buildings to be retained would be the Heald Green Theatre Company, which would be revamped to provide a range of social functions.’
We would love to hear what these would be, where we fit in or if we get to decide what happens to our theatre, we are a thriving theatre that wishes to continue to do so. We need improvement visualy and are a bit of an eye sore as any old squash court used to be but we are still here. We receive no information from the golf course and would appreciate some proper details about us and our standing in your plan. No one has contacted us directly to see what our needs are or who we are. What bits of the theatre we will still have after your plans. I appreciate we are not the ones selling but we are the ones been left behind, land sold from under us so to speak, if we are getting a new Land Lord it would be nice to see your vision and plans just so we feel part of this comunity that you are wanting to build.
