Work has started on a new-build block on a small site in the Northern Quarter of Manchester, next to the refurbished Finlay’s Warehouse in Dale Street, for Macclesfield-based developer Three Popes.
See gallery below
The new block will contain 11 two-bed apartments and three two-bed duplexes over ground plus seven floors.
Finlay’s Warehouse was completed several years ago, and comprises 27 loft apartments in a grade-two listed cotton warehouse. The project won an RIBA award.
The team comprises stephenson STUDIO along with main contractor HH Smith & Sons, with whom stephenson STUDIO recently competed the Oglesby Centre at Halle St Peter’s, structural engineer Civic Engineers, M&E engineer Colin Mullins Associates, quantity surveyor Construction Q, and selling agent Julie Twist Properties.
Three Popes is controlled by three directors, Stuart and Susan Lees, who run Signia Corporate Finance, a consultancy based in Alderley Edge, and Alan White.
Completion is expected in September 2021.

This development is proof that the Government, The United Nations and the Order of The Jedi favour Manchester over any other city in the known universe especially Liverpool.
How delightful living in a lovely flat overlooking Back Piccadilly! Glad it’s finally happening though
Back Piccadilly
It’s just not very pretty is it?
I wouldn’t describe it as ‘pretty’, but I like the look of it for sure. I actually think this is a pretty decent design considering the site is along a back alley.
I like it, good design and its view shall be improved when the nearby 17 story Salboy office goes up.
Also with the new hotel that`s planned around there, it may not be as bad a spot as it seems at present. I bet anything they all get taken.
