A 90-apartment student accommodation scheme in Trafford, intended to house students from the UA92 higher education institution backed by footballers Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs, has opened its doors to tenants.

The scheme, known as Academy Apartments, has been developed by Manchester-based Beech Holdings, a residential developer that this year struck a financing deal with Saudi Arabia-based AIMS Investments enabling it to deliver its 1,000-apartment pipeline in Greater Manchester.

Academy Apartments is located at Warwick Road in Old Trafford and is managed by lettings firm Manchester Apartments, a subsidiary of Beech.

Although the scheme was not developed in partnership with University Academy 92 (UA92), the scheme will be recommended by the higher education provider as accommodation for its students. It is also aimed at other students and young professionals working in and around Salford Quays and MediaCityUK.

Gareth Smith, director of student affairs at UA92, said: “We know the accommodation is good quality, safe and brilliant for our tenants.

“Manchester Apartments has given us peace of mind in terms of Covid-19 protection, and the apartments are completely self-contained with en-suite and personal kitchen facilities, so our students know they are Covid-secure.”

Beech bought the property – then a disused office block – in 2018 and redeveloped it into energy-efficient, modern accommodation. Academy Apartments is Beech’s second venture in the Trafford regeneration district, after it completed the 317-apartment Westpoint scheme nearby.

Jonathan Griffiths, director of property and building management at Beech Holdings, said: “We realised a couple of years ago that Trafford stood out as an area with great potential for property development. The regeneration of the area has attracted some amazing projects such as UA92 and Academy Apartments is just one part of what we have planned for this area.”
