Bruntwood SciTech’s Pozzoni-designed Alderley sports complex is now open to the public.

Construction started in December 2018, with GMI Construction Group as lead contractor. The £4m scheme in Alderley Edge completed in October before opening its doors to the public.

The 21,000 sq ft development consists of a four-court sports hall, fitness suite, group exercise studio along with a dedicated group cycle studio.

Outside, there are three floodlit tennis courts and a 5-a-side, 3G-surfaced football pitch with changing facilities.

The complex is operated by Everybody Sport & Recreation and known as Everybody @ Alderley Park.

Martin Bransby, director at Pozzoni Architecture, said: “We were given a unique, off-piste brief and a stunning site to work with. From the outset, we tried to bring the feeling of being outdoors into our designs for the building.

“We’ve used traditional and sustainable materials in some innovative ways, to give a fairly simplistic building a dramatic appearance and genuine curb appeal.”

Dr Kath Mackay, managing director at Bruntwood SciTech, said: “The new gym and sports centre at Alderley Park mirror the high-tech innovation of its office and laboratory spaces. Alderley Park has long been recognised as a great place to work and these new facilities will support the health and well-being of all those living and working here along with that of the local community.

“Its unique design has been recognised already, with the building winning the Building of the Year category at the recent Specifi Awards.”
