Fylde football ground scheme passed

Plans for the Mill Farm Sports Village to the north of Kirkham have been approved by Fylde Council, including a football ground, hotel and Aldi store.

The 6,000-seater football ground will become home to AFC Fylde, and will sit alongside a 100,000 sq ft distribution centre let to wholesaler Trilanco, and a commercial centre including a 60-bed hotel, petrol station and 16,000 sq ft Aldi.

Consent for the planning application from Mill Farm Ventures came after 700 local people signed a petition in support of proposals for the 31-acre site.

Preston-based consultant PWA Planning worked with local architect Frank Whittle Partnership in the submission and management of the planning application.

Mill Farm Ventures was formed by AFC Fylde chairman David Haythornthwaite in order to put forward the development proposals. AFC Fylde is currently based in Warton.

Work will begin on the site in September, with construction of the initial phase of the development including the football ground expected to take around 12 months.
