Fylde Council has signed off a Local Plan to 2032 which will see more than 8,700 homes built and 150 acres of employment land released in the borough.
The Local Plan was first submitted to the Secretary of State in December 2016 and has undergone a series of consultation before being adopted by Fylde Council at a meeting earlier this week.
Under the plan, development in the borough through to 2032 will focus on four strategic sites: Lytham and St Annes; the Fylde-Blackpool periphery; Warton; and Kirkham and Wesham. Around 90% of the development over the next 14 years in the area will be focussed on these four sites.
Other areas earmarked for development include around Freckleton; Warton; and Whitehills which will be improved as upgraded local centres with additional houses.
The Local Plan is provide a minimum of 8,715 new homes and a minimum of 150 acres of employment land. Around 7,850 of these homes will be focussed on the four main strategic locations, while nearly all of the employment land at 147 acres will be within the four sites.
Around 870 homes will be built outside these areas.
Large sites due to come forward in the borough include Whyndyke Garden Village, a residential-led mixed-use scheme including 630 homes; Cropper Road West in Whitehills, a development of 250 homes; and a plot north of Freckleton Bypass, including 350 homes.
Each of the four strategic sites will be subject to a masterplan policy, which the council said would “ensure that new development on strategic sites is planned and delivered in an effective manner”.
Transport projects that the council is planning to have delivered in the Local Plan period include improvements to Junction 4 of the M55; the Heyhouses Link Road between Whitehills and St Annes; and the M55 to Fleetwood Corridor Improvements.
