Fourth X1 win for Bardsley

Tameside-based Bardsley Construction has secured a £7.9m contract with X1 Developments to build a seven-storey block of student apartments in Liverpool.

The 231-apartment scheme, known as The Edge, is on Seymour Street off London Road behind Lime Street Station. Work has begun and is due for completion in August 2015 in time for the student intake at the University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University.

X1 said overseas buyers have already acquired more than half of the apartments so far sold in The Edge which also features a gym, laundry, private courtyard and bicycle storage.

DK Architects designed the scheme.

The Edge is the fourth contract awarded to Bardsley by X1 Developments following a £6.7m scheme to transform the former Salford Town Hall and Magistrates' Court into 125 one- and two-bed apartments, a £4.7m project to provide a 160-bed student accommodation block at Arndale House, Liverpool and £3.45m to build a five-storey, 109-bed student development in Chapel Street, Salford.

Ged Rooney, procurement director at Bardsley Construction, said: "Our ongoing partnership with X1 Developments goes from strength to strength as we continue to construct state-of-the-art properties throughout the North West with a particular emphasis on accommodating the region's burgeoning student and professional population."
