Four in running for Barons Quay

Contractors Balfour Beatty, Vinci, Bowmer & Kirkland and Gilbert Ash have been shortlisted for the £50m Barons Quay development in Northwich town centre by Cheshire West & Chester Council.

The scheme will be anchored by a 68,000 sq ft Asda and five-screen Odeon digital cinema. CWAC, which is acting as developer on the project, has planning consent for 429,600 sq ft of leisure and retail space, including a 70-bed hotel, as well as 45 apartments, petrol filling station, car park, and highways improvements.

A decision on the procurement of the contractor is expected in the coming weeks.

The project team advising CWAC includes building consultants Rider Levett Bucknall, architects Broadway Malyan, agents Lambert Smith Hampton and Tushingham Moore, project manager Fraser Blair Associates and engineer Curtins Consulting.

CWAC is currently procuring a design team for the Northgate retail development in Chester city centre, which it also intends to build out by itself.
