Pomona Hotel Gorton

Former Pomona Hotel redevelopment to start in 2020

The site of the former Pomona Hotel in Gorton, which stood derelict since its closure in 2004 until its demolition in 2015, is set to become 15 apartments in an independent living development.

John McCall Architects was appointed by One Manchester to create designs for the site’s reuse. Initial proposals looked at high-density schemes and co-housing, but Manchester City Council found them to be unsuitable. Ultimately, the council supported John McCall Architects and One Manchester’s proposals to provide an independent living scheme with 15 apartments for over 55s.

The site was plagued by arson and vandalism, and despite Ventry Projects gaining permission for nine houses in 2007, the scheme was never delivered. One Manchester and John McCall Architects are planning to start work on the scheme in the New Year.

The contractor on the scheme is John Southworth builders.
