Flixton stadium to be brought back into community use
Manchester-based property developer Atif Malik has bought the six-acre Urmston site and plans to create a wedding venue, sports centre and houses.
SDL Auctions and Hyde Estate & Letting Agents acted for the vendor, Flixton FC’s former chairman Lenny Wood.
The site, located close to the Manchester Ship Canal, includes the stadium and pitch, two clubhouses totalling 9,000 sq ft and a 5,000 sq ft changing facility.
Malik has earmarked part of the Valley Road stadium site for around 12 houses. The sale of these houses would pay for the creation of the wedding venue and sports facilities, he said.
The construction of the houses would be subject to planning approval.
As well as football, the sports centre would include facilities for cricket and other sports, Malik told Place North West.
Flixton FC dissolved in 2013 and the ground has been used by various teams since then, including Northwich Victoria and Sunday league side AFC Flixton.
The site had previously been marketed for outright sale for £1.25m but the asking price was subsequently reduced to £850,000.
Malik did not disclose how much he paid for the site.

With the Property Market about to implode, whilst Malik is noble for considering using a ‘Brownfield’ site for development he will lose money on this. Best to get the stadium back into football use under a CIC.
