Flats rise opposite O2 Apollo

Galliford Try Partnerships has started work on the £4m Polygon building at New Brunswick in Manchester, on behalf of the S4B consortium made up of investor Equitix, construction partner Galliford Try, social landlord Contour Homes and maintenance contractor Mears Group.

The Polygon will contain commercial and residential split over three storeys opposite the O2 Apollo music venue.

The ground floor will comprise a new housing management office to accommodate the Brunswick PFI housing team, and four retail units for rent.

Floors one and two will contain 18 two-bedroom apartments for council rent, with private parking outside.

The architect was Buttress, planning was granted in May 2013. Paul Butler Associates was the planning consultant.

The houses which were previously on the Polygon site have now been demolished, after residents were rehoused locally, to make way for the new scheme. The current housing office will be demolished at a later date to allow for more further new housing.

The polygon forms part of the wider £100m regeneration of Brunswick by S4B. To date 61 open market homes and 41 council-owned properties have been completed.

The cleared site was subject to several previous planning consents under other owners including for hotel and apartments, none of which were delivered.

This is not the polygon site -that’s next door, is privately owned and not part of the New Brunswick site. So far, no sign of progress in The Polygon site unfortunately.
