Five shortlisted for Redbank care home
Five firms have been shortlisted to tender for the construction contract on a proposed £5m care home at Redbank on Lowe Street in Radcliffe, Bury.
Six Town Housing, a landlord of former council stock in Bury, and Runcorn-based social housing consultancy, Pennington Choices, said the five shortlisted will be revealed on Friday 10 December when each has to submit a tender.
The project involves the construction of 40 predominantly two bed units of extra care homes on a 1.18-acre site of the existing Redbank residential building, which is being demolished to make way for the new 51,666 sq ft care home.
Pennington Choices is working alongside architects Pozzoni in managing the procurement, project development, and design process of the scheme.
Construction is due to start on site in February 2011. Pennington Choices said the scheme is a priority for Bury Council, and has had further support from the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities and Homes & Communities Agency.
Arthur McCabe, director at Pennington Choices, said: "The progress has certainly been impressive so far, as the scheme gained planning permission mid-September with all Pre Qualification Questionnaires being reviewed at the same time. There has been enormous interest and we are now keen to identify the right construction partner to work alongside ourselves, Pozzoni and our client on taking this exciting project forward."
