FIREM plots 33,000 sq ft Astmoor expansion

Property and asset management company, FI Real Estate Management has submitted plans to expand Astmoor Industrial Estate in Runcorn.

The proposed development of a 2.5-acre plot, currently used for car parking, will create three blocks containing 14 industrial units ranging in size from 800 sq ft to 5,000 sq ft. The whole expansion will cover 33,300 sq ft.

FIREM aims to start on site early next year subject to planning approval.

The architect and planning consultant for the project was Manchester-based Modern City Architecture & Urbanism.

Since 2016, FIREM has refurbished more than 111,000 sq ft at Astmoor, spending £1.4m in the process, it says.

The firm’s expansion plans form part of Halton Council’s strategy to upgrade the industrial estate and increase connectivity with the Mersey Gateway, making Astmoor more appealing to potential occupiers.

Halton, alongside consultancies BDP, JLL, Curtins, and EKOSGEN, launched a masterplan for the site in 2018, intended to expand the estate by 1m sq ft and create an additional 2,000 jobs.

A spokesperson for FIREM said: “There is a strong demand for industrial spaces of the size and quality we are proposing in the area and we are confident that we will quickly attract new businesses to Runcorn.

“Despite recent economic challenges, the North West industrial market remains buoyant, which is great news for the communities in which hubs like these are located.”

Earlier this month, FIREM submitted a planning application for a 120,000 sq ft redevelopment of Winnington Business Park in Northwich.
