Ernst & Young senior manager joins Co-op

Jason McEwen joins the group's trading property team as national investment delivery lead.

McEwen has been appointed to the newly created role to manage investment into the group's trading business properties, including food stores, funeral homes, pharmacy and bank branches, across the UK.

He previously spent four-and-a-half years as a senior manager working as a management consultant on major London business transformation programmes at accounting firm Ernst & Young.

McEwen, who will now lead the delivery of all the group's capital investment programmes, has more than 14 years of programme and project management experience.

He has also spent two years with management consultancies in Sydney, Australia, and also spent a further four years as a client side project manager at international consultancy and construction company, Mace Group.

Stephanie Durbin-Wood, head of capital investment at The Co-operative Group, said: "Jason has a wealth of experience managing major developments and has been involved in several multi-million pound schemes.

"His appointment, and the creation of this new role, demonstrates our commitment to invest in and expand our property portfolio and to deliver major capital investment programmes on time and on budget."

The Co-operative is investing in its existing estate, focusing on extensions and new developments, and is also actively acquiring food stores, either leasehold or freehold, between 2,000 sq ft and 4,000 sq ft in high street and local community locations across the UK.
