Eric Wright lands school job

Preston-based Eric Wright Construction has won the contract to build the £4.48m University Technical College in Wigan.

The new vocational secondary school will be based in the former Rushton Mill, and will specialise in food production, green energy and recycling.

The school is being developed by the University of Central Lancashire, Wigan & Leigh College and local employers Ainscough, HJ Heinz, Blakeley's Waste Management and Energos.

The 37,000 sq ft school, which will cater for 14-19 year olds, was designed by architects Nightingale Associates. Contractors are expected on site within the next month. There will be a mix of refurbished space and new-build replacing the former annexe which will be demolished.

The school is due to open in September 2013.
