Entries invited for Rochdale design awards

Rochdale council has launched a design competition for buildings completed in the past year.

Cllr Wera Hobhouse, cabinet member for environment and sustainability, said: "We know that better design creates better places to live in. Good design is not a luxury add-on though – it has to be at the core of what we build. Peoples' behaviour is heavily influenced by the environment they live in, so good design helps us to ensure that our citizens use what we build in a positive way."

The Rochdale Borough Design Award 2009 is open to projects completed and occupied between July 2007 and December 2008.

There are three categories:

  • Best Design Award
  • Best Conservation Award
  • People's Award

The closing date for entries is 1 March 2009. A panel of judges will shortlist winners in the spring. Local residents will also be asked to vote for the People's Award from a shortlist of finalists.

  • Entry forms are available by calling Andrew Eadie on 01706 924371 or writing to Planning and Regulation Service, Rochdale Borough Council, Floor 2, Telegraph House, Baillie Street, Rochdale OL16 1JH.
