English Landscapes wins Poynton village revamp

Cheshire East and Poynton Councils have appointed specialist construction contractor English Landscapes to carry out £3.5m of improvements to Poynton village centre.

English Landscapes has an office in Warrington and worked on Bruntwood's Booths Park in Cheshire and Allied London's Spinningfields in Manchester among other projects in the region.

The road and footpaths along Park Lane will be relayed and realigned and shop owners have been offered the chance to have their shop fronts replaced if they choose. Negotiations with shopkeepers are ongoing.

The design team for the work consisted of Martin Stockley Associates in Manchester, Planit in Altrincham and design consultant Ben Hamilton-Bailey. Traffic modelling was carried out by engineering firm Ove Arup.

The work is due to begin in early August and be finished by late November in time for Christmas trading.
