Energy firm names chairman

Tom Miskell, former chief executive of Together Housing Group, has been appointed non-executive chairman of energy business Community Switch.

Miskell has more than 25 years of experience in social housing and was chief executive of Together for three years until April 2014. Prior to this he was chief executive of Trans-Pennine Housing and Pennine Housing.

His role with Community Switch will be on a part-time basis.

Liverpool-based Community Switch was launched in January 2014 and has signed agreements with social landlords Wigan & Leigh Housing, Salix Homes in Salford, Northwards Housing in Manchester and Blackburn-based Twin Valley Homes.

Community Switch has also agreed a private-public sector partnership with Hyndburn Council in East Lancashire to switch 34,000 households.

The business is providing its service with energy supplier Utilita Energy and Energy Helpline, an independent price comparison service.

Miskell said: "The service offered by Community Switch can make a measurable difference to lives of tenants and taking action on these issues is an imperative for those who care about tenant welfare.

"We will continue the work with social housing landlords to give their tenants the chance to be responsible for making personal decisions about energy efficiency savings."
