END Clothing to make Manchester debut
The high-end men’s fashion retailer is poised to take over the 22,000 sq ft former Paperchase unit on St Mary’s Gate.
Stationery retailer Paperchase closed its Manchester store in 2020 after it collapsed into administration. However, it returned to the high street late last year, opening in the old Thortons unit in the Arndale.
Cheshire Contracts is in the process of stripping out the St Mary’s Gate unit in preparation for END Clothing’s arrival.
END, founded by John Parker and Christiaan Ashworth in 2005, has four other stores across the UK, one in London, another in Glasgow and two in Newcastle.
The retailer’s second Newcastle store opened just before Christmas in the former Byron Burger unit on Grey Street.
The Manchester outlet is END’s first North West offering and will stock brands including Gucci, Off-White and Balenciaga.
Its high-end product range is in keeping with nearby stores on Manchester’s New Cathedral Street, which include Burberry, Hugo Boss and Harvey Nichols.
END Clothing will “refresh the building’s tired-looking façade” while the existing mezzanine will be removed, according to a design and access statement by Brinkworth, the retail interior designer advising END on the project.

Struggle? But why? Perhaps in the way that so many Offices have struggled to attract high tech tenants, or in the way that so many apartments have struggled to be built and sell?. I think you are confusing Manchester with lesser places Cal. This is a place where things actually happen.

I’ve been hoping an END store would open up here for quite some time. Thought it might eventually end up in the old Debenhams or something but this is actually a better spot for it. It definitely won’t struggle, I’m actually happy Selfridges will finally have some competition.

Where woukd you go in your gear from END? Dirty Martini? Albert’s Schloss? How would it provide Selfridges with competition? It’s completely different.

END sells brands such as Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Off white, Givenchy…of course there is a similar offering to Selfridges! It quite clearly isn’t completely different.

I suppose you could go back to work in one of the many offices they’ve built here after a wonderful working lunch , well dressed, well fed to your well paid job. At least that’s what I’ll be doing Cal. Back at the office…great! Lot of money here in Manchester.
