EG Rich List: Hemmings’ wealth drops £700m
Blackpool Tower and Northern Trust owner Trevor Hemmings is down to his last £300m after suffering a dramatic decline in wealth, according to the Estates Gazette Rich List 2009.
Estates Gazette put Hemmings' losses down to 'the combination of the banking crash and the severe property downturn'.
Compiled by Sunday Times Rich List author Philip Beresford and Dominic Prince, the EG list features the UK and Ireland's 250 richest property tycoons. Their total wealth fell from £98bn at the market's peak in 2007 to £90bn in 2008 and £69bn this year.
EG reckons there were 18 North Westerners in the 250, more than any other region apart from Ireland and the South East.
