Droylsden jam factory scheme approved

Housebuilders Taylor Wimpey and Bellway Homes have won consent to build 338 homes on the site of the former Robertson’s Jam factory on Williamson Lane.

Taylor Wimpey bought the 20-acre site in Droylsden last December for £15m and lodged plans for the residential development earlier this year. Outline plans for a scheme comprising up to 350 homes were approved last August.

The development will include:

40 four-bedroom houses
192 three-bedroom houses
16 two-bedroom houses
84 two-bed apartments
Six apartments with one bedroom

A total of 17 units will be designated as affordable.

Bellway and Taylor Wimpey will each deliver 50% of the homes on the site that backs onto Ashton Canal.

The former factory, which closed in 2006, was demolished last year. Robertson’s was dissolved in 2013 after more than 100 years of trading.

Turley is the planner for the development.
