Disruption continues for Cheshire town

Cheshire East Council is warning roadwork-weary residents of further delays in Poynton this weekend.

The local authority is in the final stages of completing a lengthy scheme to create a shared space for both vehicles and pedestrians in the town centre.

From 6am on Saturday, 10 March, three-way traffic lights will be in force on Chester Road, London Road South and London Road North.

The Park Lane exit onto Fountain Place will be closed for the weekend with a diversion signposted. The three-way traffic lights will be replaced by one-way traffic lights before peak travelling time on Monday, March 12.

Cheshire East Council apologised for any inconvenience caused but could not give a date for completion, adding the "team are working as quickly as possible to complete the scheme."

Drivers are asked to find alternative routes where possible.

This scheme has and is still placing enormous stress on local businesses. People will drive almost anywhere else to shop just to avoid the congestion at fountain place. The completion date has come and gone and there is still no end in site. I would be interested to know what penalties the main contractor can expect and what compensation the local bushiness owners can expect. If any
