DevSec gains consent in Hale Barns

Trafford Council has approved plans for the redevelopment of The Square shopping centre in Hale Barns.

Development Securities bought the site from local developer Citybranch last year and plans to build a new purpose-built 29,385 sq ft foodstore, after securing a lease with Booths in January, plus 11,000 sq ft of additional retail and 24 residential apartments.

The council approved the scheme on conditions that construction started from 8am between Monday and Friday, and any deliveries to the foodstore would take place after 7am between Monday and Saturday.

A council report said these conditions were considered to have no harmful "impact on the amenity of residents on Tithebarn Road", located near to the site.

The existing shopping centre is being demolished.

Development Securities aims to have the new scheme fully operational during 2012.

Citybranch had an application rejected in 2008 for a supermarket-led scheme including 51 apartments and a further 14 shops.

Drivers Jonas Deloitte advised on the plans.
