Development to unlock tyre firm’s relocation

Oak Tyres UK has been granted outline planning consent by St Helens Council for a mixed-use development in Rainhill.

The proposals include 60 homes and a medical facility intended to provide for local health services.

Manchester-based HOW Planning advised the tyre retailer. Conor Vallelly, planner at HOW Planning, said: "The plans for the Oak Tyres site will help to regenerate this part of Rainhill through new investment, delivering much needed new homes and provides the opportunity for new and improved local services."

Securing planning permission will help to support the long term future of the specialist tyre distribution company who have outgrown their Warrington Road premises. Oak Tyres have occupied the two-hectare site since the 1990s as their headquarters.

The business, which is located within a mainly residential area of Rainhill, is faced by considerable expansion constraints on the current site.

Obtaining planning permission will allow Oak Tyres to seek to relocate their storage and distribution operation to a more appropriate location.

Larry Cross from Oak Tyres adds: "Obtaining planning permission has been crucial for the business as it means we can really start to make plans for the future. Relocating the business will have a number of benefits for the company in operational terms and provides the platform for potential future expansion."
