Developers given more time in Prestwich

Acting on behalf of Hollins Murray Group, HOW Planning has secured a five-year extension to planning consent for the retail-led scheme in Prestwich town centre.

Last year HMG signed a joint venture with Terrace Hill Group to help bring the scheme to fruition. Plans include the demolition of the existing Longfield Shopping Centre and library to make way for a mixed-use development. The library will be rebuilt along with a new seven-deck multi-storey car park.

The seven-acre development in Bury New Road was designed by Liverpool-based Craig Foster Architects and will contain a food store of 60,000 sq ft along with smaller non-food retail units which will accommodate some of the existing tenants. There will also be a 70-bed hotel, office accommodation, restaurants, public realm space and up to 36 residential units.

Carol Clarke, associate at HOW Planning, said: "The plans for the new scheme are hugely important as they will create a higher quality shopping experience. The extension to time limit provides our client with more time to bring the scheme forward for development and allow a comprehensive masterplan to be worked up which will result in a modern and attractive town centre facility."
