Developer proposes next hotel for Central Park
A planning application has been submitted for a second Holiday Inn on Manchester’s Oldham Road, alongside a nursery, offices and multi-storey car park, designed by Leach Rhodes Walker.
The mixed-use development is known as Central Park Plaza. The Holiday Inn will be an Express branch, and totals 120 bedrooms. The project also includes a “new concept” nursery, 29,000 sq ft of offices, the 461-space car park, and a Starbucks drive thru.
The plot at the entrance to Central Park is owned by James McGrarr, who also owns the other Holiday Inn on Oldham Road.
Construction is expected to start in summer 2017 subject to planning consent, with completion in autumn 2018.
Christian Gilham, director of Leach Rhodes Walker, said: “It is great to have worked again with Manchester City Council and our client to achieve a high quality gateway scheme, which will stimulate growth, provide jobs and set new standards for quality and design in the locality.”
What this area needs is housing within any mixed use development, after 5pm the place is already a ghost town. Such prime land next to one of the most impressive metrolink stations on the network should be put to proper use.
