DeTrafford proposes towers next to Renaker’s Owen Street

Residential developer DeTrafford has unveiled plans for three towers, the tallest of 32 storeys, alongside Renaker’s emerging Owen Street cluster at the southern end of Deansgate, Manchester.

The Great Jackson Street development would contain 399 apartments in three blocks, of 32, 28 and 16 storeys, rising above a series of townhouses and shops at ground floor level.

The project team is Paul Butler Associates for planning advice and the architects are SimpsonHaugh & Partners.

The site is between Owen Street, where Renaker is on site with towers up to 66 storeys tall, Deansgate and the Mancunian Way next to the footbridge into Hulme Park.

Nearby, DeTrafford has several sites at varying stages of planning and development along the Chester Road corridor into Trafford.

DeTrafford held a pre-planning consultation event yesterday and said it will continue to work closely with Manchester City Council to finalise plans before submission.

Once again Manchester will not seek any Section 106 Contribution. Probably on the basis that the poor Developer could not make the scheme stack up financially (yea right). So where are the Doctors’ Surgeries, Dentists and Nurseries needed to support a community?

Awful

There is no holding Manchester is there!

Poor Developers – they have literally just done the first consultation, how can you infer that the developers will not include these amenities? You have no evidence to support this. You will get your chance to affect this development during the further consultations and though the planning process – which I assume you will be highly engaged with…

I hope the developers do include these community facilities, and I am glad to see a long envisaged framework for these particular zombie car parks being put into action.

32 is teeny weeny these days….

Chester Road re-development is a missed opportunity a huge gateway to the city centre, Bridgewater way needs re-configuring, footpaths and cycle lanes running down it. A missed opportunity to create an impressive approach into the city centre of which there are few, if any. Would’ve taken bit of vision, planning and a bit of cash but not beyond the realms of possibility. But planning, vision and spending cash seems to be pretty unfashionable in Britain at the moment…

Bradford – on the basis that no other Developer has been required to provide such community facilities, I will be amazed if DeTrafford provides these out of the goodness of their heart. They are Developers after all and their objective is profit!

By Poor Developers

I’m not too worried as most of these schemes wont get built.

Agree with Anonymous. All the entrances to Manchester are grim. They could create an avenue from Cornbrook with trees all the way to Beetham. We seem to have such hostility to greenery in this city. No decent parks and open spaces which are just concrete and street furniture.
