Derwent adds six to shopping park roster

Six retail and leisure brands have been announced as headline tenants for the £100m Liverpool Shopping Park, taking 68,000 sq ft in the scheme which is due to open in October.

An 11,000 sq ft M&S Foodhall, 10,000 sq ft Boots, a 5,500 sq ft JD Sports and 10,000 sq ft Outfit will be the first retailers, while a 27,500 sq ft Hollywood Bowl and 4,000 sq ft, 156-seater Chiquito Restaurant Mexican Bar & Grill will join the park’s leisure line-up.

The four retailers will take space in the Western Quarter, a horseshoe block of 17 retail units totalling 105,600 sq ft, which makes up the first phase of the scheme and fronts onto Edge Lane.

Chiquito will occupy a plot at the entrance to Liverpool Shopping Park, next to the new Frankie & Benny’s restaurant which was announced earlier this year.  The 24-lane Hollywood Bowl is set to open in summer 2018.

The new lettings follow the completion of the new 49,000 sq ft flagship B&Q, which opened earlier this month.

David Lyons, chief executive of The Derwent Group said: “From the outset we’ve said that the success of Liverpool Shopping Park is dependent on the strength of the retail and leisure tenant mix and we have been working hard to get the balance right and these deals over the line.

“Liverpool Shopping Park will be one of the UK’s biggest shopping schemes once complete and we’re thrilled that the first wave of lettings is so strong. With the likes of M&S Foodhall, Boots and Hollywood Bowl, shoppers and leisure customers can now get a real sense of what Liverpool Shopping Park will be all about.  We’re in final negotiations with a number of other retail and leisure operators and expect to announce additional lettings imminently.”

Liverpool Shopping Park will total 727,000 sq ft of retail space once complete and includes parking for 1,500 cars and significant leisure.

Liverpool Shopping Park is expected to open in October 2017.

Bob I would disagree. It is more akin to Roy Hodgsons recruitment drive when he took over at Liverpool Football Club.

The jobs are enormously positive I agree. To be fair, as it’s not their full tenant list we (I) should reserve judgement. We’ve all been to these places – there are dozens of them around our region alone. They are sometimes convenient, other times hellish but rarely inspiring. As it stands, it’s a missed opportunity for me. It could be anywhere.

I believe one has to look at the bigger picture here. With this development taking place at speed now, it is starting to create activity all along Edge Lane, with recent announcements about the Range opening further down the road and hotel openings etc, plus the much anticipated former Littlewoods building being transformed into a movie and tv production centre.
With more to come I am led to believe.
