Dachser completes £14m Rochdale distribution centre

European logistics company Dachser has completed a 56,000 sq ft base at Rochdale’s Kingsway Business Park.

The facility is at Kingsway Business Park off Junction 21 of the M62, and will act as a hub for Dachser’s operations in the North of England.

The company was formerly based at Chichester Street and Dachser has now relocated following the completion of the warehouse this month by contractor Winvic.

The logistics provider employs 106 people in Rochdale, which is its fourth UK site alongside facilities in Northampton, Dartford, and Bristol. The company said it expects to create more jobs in Rochdale as part of its relocation.

The company’s branch manager Gary Atkinson said: “On a purely commercial business case we could have moved out of the area but we’re a family business and our team is very important to us.

“We wanted to get closer to the motorway network but it was also vital for us to retain the skills and team that we have. The North and the North West are very important to us.

“The project was discussed pre-Brexit and nothing changed once the Brexit decision was made. Brexit may have changed some of the ways we do business but it won’t alter our commitment.”

Dachser’s distribution centre adds to the 3.5m sq ft already developed at Kingsway Business Park. East Midlands-based Winvic recently completed an expansion of JD Sports’ facility at the site, while other tenants include Asda, Eon, Cleland McIver Lifestyle, and Source Bio-Science.

There have been two major lettings the past 12 months totalling 90,000 sq ft, with Nobilia and Gemalto both taking space at the park.

Winvic is also on site delivering a 75,000 sq ft distribution facility for door and MDF manufacturer Trade Mouldings, which is set to open next year.

P3 and JLL are the appointed agents for Kingsway Business Park, which is being delivered by a joint venture partnership of Wilson Bowden, Homes England, Rochdale Council, and the Rochdale Development Agency.
