Cult store opening in The Rock

Fashion retailer Cult has taken an 11,042 sq ft unit at the £350m The Rock development due to open in Bury this summer.

The new store will be SuperGroup's first standalone Cult outlet in the Manchester region and its second Cult store in the North West.

The retailer will stock its Superdry, SurfCo California and 77Breed brands.

Richard Poyser, Hammerson assistant leasing director, said: "Young fashion is continuing to stand out as a strong growth area with rising sales and impressive consumer demand. Securing a brand of Cult's calibre for its first store in the Manchester region highlights the confidence in both The Rock's retail credentials and the catchment."

Julian Dunkerton, founding partner and chief executive of SuperGroup, said: "The Rock marks a significant milestone in our expansion, which continues to buck the overall trend. At a conservative estimate we will be opening approximately another 20 stores across the UK during the coming year."

Other tenants signed up to the 640,000 sq ft retail and leisure scheme include H&M, Bank, River Island and independent retailer, Hurley.

The Rock also includes anchor stores Debenhams and Marks & Spencer alongside eight other flagship stores including Next, Peacocks and Primark. Leisure operators secured include Vue, AMF Bowling and Pizza Express.

Jones Lang LaSalle acted on behalf of Cult and CBRE, and GCW acted on behalf of The Rock. The rental agreement was not disclosed.

The Rock was designed by BDP and is being built by Laing O'Rourke. The launch of the scheme, which now over 75% let, will take place on 16 July.
