Croftons adds to housing team

Housing law firm Croftons has appointed Kirsty Varley from Salford City Council where she was a member of the housing, crime and disorder legal team.

Varley joined the Manchester-based practice this week as an associate and will specialise in housing management work, dealing with applications for injunctions, possession claims, Anti-Social Behaviour Orders, and committal proceedings.

Simon Leighton, Croftons' managing partner, said: "Kirsty has a wealth of experience in the housing sector, is technically well regarded, and, more importantly, understands our clients' issues and how best to help them. Kirsty will be a fantastic addition to our fast-growing team."
Leighton said: "The housing sector is undergoing unprecedented change. We have used this as an opportunity to ask our clients about their future legal service requirements. Clients have fed back to us that they would welcome a strong housing management team in addition to our long-standing property and development, regeneration, shared ownership, and commercial property expertise. We have gone out into the marketplace and looked for talented people to join us. Nearly a year ago we appointed Melanie Dirom to head up the housing management team, we then appointed Christine Land from within our firm, and now with Kirsty's arrival we have a full-time team of three housing management specialists."

Croftons now has an 18-strong housing and regeneration team.

Varley said: "I trained to be a solicitor because I have a passion for people. Early in my career, I was a complaints officer for the Rail Passengers' Committee and have also held roles in racial equality. Becoming a housing lawyer was something I had my heart set on many years ago and, now, joining one of the leading specialist housing and regeneration practices is the 'icing on the cake'. I am looking forward to meeting the firm's clients and helping create a sustainable future for them and for the firm."
