Create picked for £25m Salford Quays student scheme

Create Construction has partnered with developer Bricks Capital to deliver a £24.5m student accommodation project in Salford Quays, featuring 404 bedrooms.

The project is one of two to be delivered by Create under its partnership with Bricks Capital, to be developed under the True student brand.

A quarter of the bed spaces will be en-suite with the rest as studios, and the 156,000 sq ft development will also include a coffee shop, library, lounge, media room, and a double-height reception.

Designed by architect KKA, the L-shaped block stretches to 13 storeys and covers an acre plot at King William Street, where Broadway meets the Quays. It was formerly used as surface car parking.

Blackpool-based Create is due to hand over the project in time for the 2020/21 academic year. Under the deal, Create will advise on land appraisal and pre-construction, as well as acting as main contractor

Peter Prickett, chief executive of Bricks Capital said: “We’re very excited to enter this partnership with Create, and believe the strategic approach adopted by both companies will support our swift and successful growth in the purpose-built student, branded hotel and residential sectors, whilst also enabling us to jointly explore emerging asset classes such as co-living.”

As well as the Salford Quays project, Create will also deliver a £34m student scheme for Bricks in Swansea, including 706 beds over 274,000 sq ft.
