CPO surveyor promoted at GVA Grimley

Property consultant, GVA Grimley, has promoted Helen Kirkham from surveyor to principal surveyor in the compulsory purchase and compensation department.

Kirkham graduated from Liverpool John Moores University and joined GVA Grimley in 2005.

She works in the North West CPO team, headed by director Mike King and as part of the national team headed by Nigel Laing. Her work includes major CPO schemes including the Mersey Gateway Project for Halton Borough Council, and the Eastgate and Harewood Quarter city centre scheme for Leeds City Council.

King said: "Helen has played an increasingly important role in serving our broad client base and I am delighted that we can reward her dedication and hard work for our clients. She is a valuable member of our dedicated team and her expertise will play an important role in growing our business in this specialist discipline in the region."

Since when did we think it a good idea to transfer the responsibility of CPO powers to a private firm? It used to take a pretty compelling argument in the imperative national interest to justify such a step by local authorities. Now it seems commercial gain is untethered.
