Covers come off Old Trafford events venue

Contractor Morgan Sindall has officially handed over the £15m conference and events venue at Lancashire County Cricket Club's ground.

The Point, designed by architects BDP, was completed on time after 14 months and will accommodate a conference or formal dinner for 1,000 people.

LCCC's chairman Michael Cairns says: "It is hard to believe that this splendid construction has been completed in just 14 months. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have been involved in this achievement, from both Morgan Sindall and our own personnel, who are now gearing up for the official opening later this month and more importantly our first event on the 1 July."

Morgan Sindall area director Jim Morgan said: "We are proud to have played a major role in this exciting project at one of the UK's most prestigious sporting venues. We are delighted to be able to handover the completed facility on time. It has been a pleasure working with Lancashire County Cricket Club during the course of the project and we wish them a successful season on the pitch."

The Point is part of phase one of the redevelopment of the Old Trafford cricket ground. The wider scheme, underwritten by a large Tesco superstore, is aimed at getting the ground back on The Ashes roster.
