Housebuilder Countryside is to submit a fresh planning application before year end ahead of a £20m remediation scheme north of Leigh, where it this month completed a deal to buy 178 acres.
Countryside hopes to start on a £20m land remediation programme next summer ahead of starting a phased development programme. The land, off Nel Pan Lane, was sold with outline consent for 1,800 homes by CBRE on behalf of part of a Guernsey-based group.
Countryside said it is working with Wigan Council to set out a plan to deliver around 1,700 new homes in phases, along with a district centre, infrastructure and the retention of green open space over a 10-year period.
The firm will also invest approximately £10m in a section of the planned new link road between junction 26 of the M6 and junction 5 of the M61.
Countryside’s consultants are currently preparing reports to support its planning application, which includes the review of the site’s existing outline planning consent for the development of new homes
