Country house prepares for The Open

The Frank Whittle Partnership, architecture and design practice, has handed over an extension to The Villa in Wrea Green ready for the Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes this summer.

The £500,000 project included creating six additional bedrooms at the luxury end of the Villa's offer – four 'state rooms' and two family suites – adding to the 25 rooms in the former private house.

Villa state roomAround 250,000 spectators are expected for the major golf tournament between 15 and 22 July.
Paul Henderson of FWP said: "The state rooms really are something special. Our design helped the team at The Villa to extend above the existing bar area at the hotel to create new bedrooms and to convert existing parts of the hotel into the bedrooms.

"Throughout the design process we were acutely aware of the special look and feel The Villa has and our aim was to ensure the extension was a continuation of that.

"Events like the Open Golf attract visitors looking for this high standard of accommodation and The Villa can now offer more luxury than before."

The Villa was acquired in 2010 by Lancashire businessman Simon Rigby, whose businesses include the Farmgen anaerobic digestion start-up.
