Council backs seaside wedding venue

Work will start next summer on a wedding venue on Blackpool promenade after the council approved plans.

The timber building designed by dRMM Architects will feature an indoor ceremony hall and exterior roof terrace.

The plans were submitted by ReBlackpool, the urban regeneration company. Doug Garrett, chief executive of ReBlackpool, said: "Many couples long for a beachside wedding but often can't combine their dreams with guest requirements – now they can have the best of both worlds."

The venue will also be home to a quality beach café and Tourist Information Centre, and it's hoped the first ceremonies will take place in spring 2011.

Funding of £2.7m has been awarded by NWDA towards the development cost of the building.
