Cosmopolitan starts on Skelmersdale site

Liverpool-based BLP Egerton Regeneration has been appointed to construct new houses on a site formerly home to The Owl & Pussycat pub in Egerton, Skelmersdale.

Cosmopolitan Housing Association is delivering nine 3-bedroom houses on Egerton Road, where the derelict public house had remained empty since 2009.

Cosmopolitan expects work to be completed by October this year.

The £1m project is the association's first development in the area and was given £535,500 of funding support from the Homes & Communities Agency, while the remainder of the costs are being met by Cosmopolitan.

Architects Denovo Design is working with Cosmopolitan on the development.

Kristene Karaski, regeneration officer with Cosmopolitan, said: "There is a significant waiting list in this area for housing and these properties will go towards helping to ease that."

Karaski added that Denovo Design worked with pupils from Hillside Community Primary School, located adjacent to the site, who gave an input into the garden and building design.

Baker Properties was the previous owner of the site.
