Contractors selected for £50m roster

Riverside Group, the Liverpool-based housing association with a £1.7bn portfolio, has appointed landscaping and civic construction contractors for the next four years.

The works to be carried out under the non-binding agreement relate to hard and soft landscaping such as road work, new pathways and boundaries, signage, lighting, street furniture, seating, security fences, parks, shelters, planting and growing areas, provision of water and public art.

Riverside owns more than 51,000 properties in 169 local authority areas and generates £250m turnover each year.

The construction agreement was broken down into six lots covering Lee Valley, Merseyside; North West; South East; Midlands; North East; and Scotland. The framework agreements have been put in place for a maximum of four years from September 2011. The scoring criterion used was weighted 60% for quality and 40% for price.

The selected contractors, the majority picked for all lots, were as follows:

  • P Casey & Co, Rochdale
  • Birse Civils, Tadcaster
  • North Midland Construction, Sutton-in-Ashfield
  • Landscape Group, Coventry
  • Aggregate Industries UK, Markfield
  • Horticon, Wilmslow

The Riverside Group chief executive, Deborah Shackleton, who has led the organisation for 12 years, is retiring in December. She will be replaced by Carol Matthews, currently chief executive of Guinness Northern Counties and an executive team member of the Guinness Partnership. Matthews will arrive in February.
