Contractors named for highways work

A roster of civil engineers has been selected by Warrington Council to deliver highways improvements required for major developments including Omega and Muse’s Time Square.

A spokesman for the council said “continued success in promoting Warrington’s status as an economic powerhouse has attracted increased capital investment in highway and environmental based schemes, placing greater demand on staff resources, existing suppliers and contracts.

“To deliver the present and future demands it is essential to establish an increased base of delivery resource, of civil engineering contractors, who can be called upon, with short notice, to deliver competitively priced individual schemes, underpinned by quality processes and management systems.”

The estimated budget for the capital works contract 2016-2019 would typically deliver works to a value of £7m a year with an overall potential tender throughout of over £21m during its term, subject to continued successful investment and bids. There will be a varying nature of highway and environmental improvement schemes ranging from town centre regeneration, traffic signal junction improvements, local safety schemes and cycleway infrastructure works.

There were two lots awarded: for work up to £750,000 and for work above that amount.

In the first lot, the winners were:

  • Network Surfacing, based in Warrington
  • George Cox & Sons, Bolton
  • Eric Wright Civil Engineering, Preston
  • Dowhigh, Liverpool

Selected for the second lot, for works above £750,000:

  • Dawnus Construction, Swansea
  • Dowhigh, Liverpool
  • Eurovia Infrastructure, Horsham
