Contractors named for £100m West Cumbria hospital
Laing O'Rourke will be the lead contractor and Rider Hunt the cost adviser on the redevelopment of West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven.
North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust is undertaking the biggest single capital investment into healthcare in West Cumbria for over half-a-century. The project is being taken forward under the NHS Procure21 framework. The redevelopment will see the majority of acute clinical services provided in new-build accommodation including a new-build emergency care centre, new theatres, new ambulatory care and new wards.
Early preparatory work is expected to start on site before Christmas this year to allow for the major construction to begin on the site in 2010. Construction is expected to last five years.
EC Harris Built Asset Consultancy advised North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust in drawing up the initial plans.
