Contractors announced for bumper schools programme

The Government's Partnerships for Schools organisation has named the contractors that will form the North and Midlands division of a new £4bn framework agreement.

Twelve firms were appointed to the panel, which is expected to become operational in December. The contractors are:

  • Balfour Beatty
  • BAM Construct
  • Bovis Lend Lease
  • Carillion
  • Interserve
  • Kier
  • Sir Robert McAlpine
  • Wates
  • Willmott Dixon
  • Clugston
  • Shepherd
  • and Vinci

PfS chief executive Tim Byles said: "With contracts in the region of £500m coming to market in the first five months alone, the new framework gives the successful contractors access to a predictable flow of work, supported by direct grant Government funding.

"The new framework will secure the future work stream, maintaining the focus on streamlined and accelerated delivery of education investment in academies, smaller Building Schools for the Future schemes and other education facilities, with the first schools to be procured through the new framework opening their gates in September 2012."

A separate panel was announced for the South at the same time, with nine of the contractors on the Northern roster named plus three others.
