Contractor sought for £8m Mersey Ferries landing stage

Merseytravel, the passenger transport executive, has published the first details of the tender to build a new landing stage for the Mersey Ferries at the Pier Head in Liverpool.

The £8m job is subject to grant approval from the European Regional Development Fund via the North West Development Agency.

A new terminal has already been built by ISG and is now open at the Pier Head, where a temporary landing stage was installed following the sinking of the last one in 2006.

The contractor will be required to produce preliminary designs and carry out ground investigation works in the River Mersey, before working up the detailed design and constructing the stage.

The deadline for expressions of interest is 14 January 2009. A contractor is expected to be appointed in spring 2009, with completion of the job scheduled for autumn 2010.
