Contractor search starts for Carlisle’s Gateway 44

Carlisle City Council is looking to appoint a contractor to deliver a retail warehouse at Gateway 44, its industrial development site at Parkhouse Business Park, just off Junction 44 of the M6.

The 3.5-acre site is on Parkhouse Road, next to the M6, and has a frontage on to the A689. It also sits opposite the city’s Asda Superstore and the Kingstown Retail Park.

The council is working with developer Chancerygate to bring forward the scheme, which will be delivered on a design-and-build basis. Carlisle said it would be looking to invite five contractors with experience in the warehouse and industrial sector to tender for the project as part of a two-stage process.

This will include determining build costs for the project, with the tendering and construction period expected to take around 16 months.

Chancerygate said there had already been “strong occupier interest” in the site. Carigiet Cowen is the retained agent for the scheme.
